Mickey Pearson Jr. has been named to the Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Academic All-MAC Team, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The redshirt junior forward from Lincoln, Ala., previously earned an Academic All-District recognition by the College Sports Communicators for his work in the classroom as a sociology major and on the basketball court.
To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must be in at least his second academic year at the school, carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher, and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. Pearson Jr. is 1 of 14 MAC men's basketball student-athletes to receive the honor.
Pearson Jr. averaged 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 34.7 minutes per game, ranking second on the team in rebounds and playing time and fourth in scoring. The third-year Cardinal shot 43.0 percent from the field including 35.9 percent on 3-pointers while making 85.3 percent of his free throws to end the year ranked third in the MAC and No. 80 nationally in foul shooting.
