March 31, 2024 | Men's Tennis
The Cardinals have won four-straight MAC matches after today's win
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team extended its win streak to four in Mid-American Conference action as the Cardinals pulled off the 5-2-win Sunday afternoon at the Foster Adams Tennis Complex and Bill Richards Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in league play while the Bulls fall to 4-12 and 0-7 in conference action.
The top court powered through its doubles match as Vince Orlando and Nathaniel Webster only gave up two games to the Bulls No. 1 doubles tandem of Finn Macnamara and Daniils Snaiders winning the match, 6-2. Eli Herran alongside his No. 3 doubles partner Sajin Smith would clinch the doubles point after posting a 6-3 decision over You-Shiang Huang and Yunnan Jiang.
In singles, Herran won his 96th career singles match at Ball State after taking down Michael Malkin, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot. Shortly after Herran finished, Jacks Lancaster posted at straight set defeat against the Bulls No. 4 player Jiang, 6-1, 6-2.
The Cardinals needed just one more point to secure the win over the Bulls. With four courts still playing, Buffalo would soon take the top two courts from Ball State to make the score 3-2.
Smith was in a highly competitive second set at the No. 5 position after taking the first frame from Macnamara, 6-3. A brief comeback from Macnamara made the second set 5-5 but Smith rallied back to not only win the second 7-5 but also claim match point for the Cardinals.
Broc Fletcher rounded out the victories today for Ball State winning, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (6) at the No. 6 slot.
The Ball State men's tennis team will play one match next Friday at Western Michigan. First serve is at 1 pm ET.
