Swimming Sends Three to Event Finals on Day Two of CSCAA NIC

OCALA, Fla. - - Three Cardinals made it to their respective event finals Friday on Ball State's second day of competition at the 2024 CSCAA National Invitational Championships.

After winning the 50 breaststroke Thursday, senior Joey Garberick made his second championship heat appearance of the meet Friday in the 100 breaststroke. He would go on to finish fifth overall at the FAST (Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training) with a time of 52.57, shaving 0.57 off his morning preliminary time.

Fifth-year senior Bryce Handshoe advanced to the consolation finals of the 100 fly, ultimately finishing 18th in 48.33.

On the women's side, sophomore Payton Kelly earned a spot in the consolation finals of the 100 backstroke, turning in the third-fastest time in program history to place 12th overall at 54.65. The effort followed a third-place finish in Thursday's 50 freestyle.

Traveling north to the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, sophomore Porter Brovont ended his 2023-24 campaign with a 27th-place score of 233.20 on the 1M board at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

Ball State's swimmers are slated to compete in 11 more events Saturday at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships.

Swimming starts with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
