
Men’s Tennis Claims 6-1 MAC Victory Over Illinois-Chicago

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team(6-6, 1-1 MAC) claimed a 6-1 Mid-American Conference victory over Illinois-Chicago (7-5, 0-2 MAC) Sunday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
It was all around a dominating performance by the Cardinals today which started off strong in doubles. Nathaniel Webster and Vince Orlando exited the court quickly as they took down UIC's Edoardo Bottino and Gustavo Schwebel for the 6-1 victory on the top court. Eli Herran and Sajin Smith then clinched the doubles point with their 6-1 defeat over the Flames' No. 3 duo of Artem Iermolov and Elliott Dam.
Orlando breezed through his first set at No. 2 singles and would push the Cardinals' lead to 2-0 after his opponent had to retire. Webster followed suit after beating Randy Wilson, 6-4, 6-3 on the top court. Sajin Smith increased Ball State's team score to 4-0 winning set one, 6-1 and then the second frame, 6-3 at position No. 5. Smith's win claimed the match for the Cardinals.
Other winners were Lancaster and Herran, respectively.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action when it plays at Toledo Friday. First serve is at 1 pm ET.
