Softball Suffers 3-2 Setback To Canisius

RICHMOND, Ky. - - The Ball State softball team opened play in the EKU Colonel Classic with a 3-2 loss to Canisius Friday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.

The game started at 10 a.m. and saw the Cardinals (6-10) leading 1-0 in the top of the third with rain rolled through the area. After a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay, the teams were able to get back on the field with the Golden Griffins (3-5) battling back for the 3-2 victory.

Graduate third baseman Haley Wynn scored both runs for the Cardinals and collected three of the team's seven hits. Her leadoff single down the left field line to open the game was the 200th of her career, while she raised her career runs score total to 148.

Unfortunately, with more rain in the area, the remainder of tonight's schedule was canceled due to the integrity of the playing surface, including BSU's scheduled tilt with in-state rival Purdue Fort Wayne.
With today's cancelations, the Cardinals will now play Purdue Fort Wayne at Noon and Canisius at 5 p.m. Saturday, before facing tournament host Eastern Kentucky Sunday at 2 p.m.
