February 09, 2024 | Men's Volleyball
LEBANON, Ill. - The Ball State men's volleyball team (8-7, 1-1 MIVA) dropped a 3-0 decision on the road Friday night at McKendree (4-4, 1-1 MIVA).
The Cardinals put on quite the show with a first set comeback after trailing the Bearcats 19-9. BSU began to make its move slowly but surely as Will Patterson served up five straight points late in the frame to bring the score to 22-21. After that, both teams traded points which put the set into OT at 28-28 but unfortunately for the Cardinals the Bearcats went up 30-28 to take the 1-0 early lead in the match.
In set two, both squads went back-and-forth, Ball State built a three-point (8-5) edge after a kill from Patrick Rogers. The Cardinals continued to carry a lead at the midway mark, but the Bearcats weren't going away, jumping ahead of Ball State 14-12. After a few ties and lead changes the second period came down to the wire but again McKendree took the set from Ball State, 25-23.
The third frame mimicked the first two although the Cardinals stayed within reach of the Bearcats it wasn't enough and McKendree went on to take set three (25-21) and the match (3-0).
For the match, the Cardinals struggled offensively with Rogers being the only Cardinal to reach double figure kills with 12. Rogers also recorded his first double-double with 10 digs while adding five block assists on the night.
The Ball State men's volleyball team continue MIVA play on the road when it travels to Lindenwood Saturday for a 8 pm ET first serve.
