Men’s Tennis Opens Play in California for Annual Spring Break Trip

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Ball State men's tennis team opened spring break action in California with a neutral site match against the University of Pacific men's tennis squad. The Cardinals (5-4) fell to the Tigers (6-1) this afternoon by a score of 6-1.
Today's matchup was the first time both teams have met. The Tigers opened play by winning the doubles point over the Cardinals. The Ball State No. 1 doubles tandem of Vince Orlando and Nathaniel Webster took two games from the 19th-ranked Justas Trainauskas and Peter Alam. The pair would end up losing by a score of 6-2. The Pacific Tigers claimed the doubles point after winning at the No. 3 slot, 6-4. Although play was abandoned on court two, Mason Tran and Jacks Lancaster were up 4-3.
In singles, the lone Cardinal to earn a point for Ball State today was Sajin Smith at the No. 5 singles position. Smith earned the two-set tie breaking victory after defeating Tommy Czaplinski, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).
The Ball State men's tennis team continues play at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship through Sunday, March 3. The Cardinals will play one more dual match on Sunday at a neutral site against Villanova before returning home to start Mid-American Conference action.
