Gallagher Paces Women’s Golf on Opening Day of Rio Verde Collegiate Invite

RIO VERDE, Ariz. - - Sophomore Sarah Gallagher tied her lowest round of the season, shooting 71 (-1) to lead the Ball State women's golf team on the opening day of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Michigan.
On the challenging 6,024-yard, 72-par Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club, Gallagher shined on the back nine, carding birdies on holes 11, 15 and 18 to finish the day tied for eighth at -1. She is just two strokes behind second and four off the lead held by Missouri State's Chayenne Chivrac.
Freshman JJ Gregston and sophomore Madelin Boyd also turned in solid rounds for the Cardinals, finishing the day at 76 (+4) and 78 (+6), respectively. Gregston is currently tied for 41st, while Boyd is tied for 58th among the 104-golfer field.
Sophomore Jasmine Driscoll rounded out Ball State's countable scores with a 79 (+7) and is tied for 69th.
As a team, the Cardinals finish the round at 304 (+16) and are currently 13th among the 21-team field. BSU is just nine strokes out of fifth and 17 back of the lead.
Action in the second round of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational is slated to being at Noon ET / 10 a.m. MST Saturday with BSU's golfers currently scheduled to go off holes 5-7.
