Track and Field Heads to Bowling Green for Indoor Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The 2024-25 indoor track and field season will open on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Tom Wright Open hosted by Bowling Green State University. Â
Last year, the Cardinals finished the indoor season ranked 26th nationally, following Jenelle Rogers's runner-up finish in the pentathlon (4430 points) at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Â
In the Mid-American Conference, Ball State finished third at the championship meet. Stand out performances included Jenna Oriani's first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (55.31), the third-place 4x400-meter relay team of Alexis Thigpen, Emma Potter, Paige Kirtz and Oriani (3:47.18) and Rogers's wins in the long jump (6.26m) and the pentathlon (4056 points). Â
The Tom Wright Open will start at noon Saturday morning with field events. Running events will begin at 1 p.m. Competition includes Bowling Green and Cleveland State. Â
Looking ahead, the spring semester will hold some exciting opportunities for the Cardinal group. The team will open the new year at the Wisconsin Midwest Invitational (Jan. 11). Through the rest of the month, the Cardinals will also compete at Indiana's Crossroads of America Classic in Indianapolis (Jan. 18), the Bellarmine Open (Jan. 24) and Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational (Jan. 31 – Feb. 1). Â
Closing out the regular season, the team will head to Wittenburg's Gem City Invite (Feb. 8) and split for Grand Valley State's Big Meet and Wisconsin's Windy City Invite (Feb. 14-15). Â
Postseason competition will begin in Akron with the MAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 28-Mar. 1), followed by the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virgina Beach (Mar. 14-15). Â
