WBB Puts on Strong Offensive Display in Win Over In-State Rival IU Indy
November 08, 2024 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - From start-to-finish, the Ball State women's basketball team put on a strong offensive display which ultimately led to the Cardinals impressive 89-63 win over in-state rival IU Indy Friday night in Worthen Arena.
With the win, the Cardinals open their season 2-0 for the second-straight year while the Jaguars fall to 1-1.
In true Cardinal fashion, Ball State opened the contest with a 9-3 scoring spree which saw two 3-pointers from Marie Kiefer and Elise Stuck along with a fast break layup from Lachelle Austin. Not only were the Cardinals making shots from outside the arc but also the post players were making strong statements as well to give BSU the 19-11 edge over IU Indy at the end of the first quarter.
However, it wasn't necessarily the scoring that led to the Cardinals 21-point (47-26) halftime lead over the Jaguars. Ball State's defense played a huge roll in the second frame, becoming a big part of the equation. The Cardinals held IU Indy to only 26 points in the first half.
The Cardinals also shot 57.1 percent from the field and the 3-point line in the second quarter while placing two players in double figures at intermission with Ally Becki having 12 points and Stuck ending the half with 11.
The remaining two quarters mimicked the first half, the Cardinals controlled their destiny throughout the contest and never looked back. Despite efforts, IU Indy could not revive itself after falling behind in the opening minutes of the contest.
Becki led the Cardinals in scoring for the second-straight game with 21 points while dishing out nine assists. Austin chipped in 14 points while Zuri Ransom tallied 12 points. Both Stuck and Richard finished the night with 11 apiece.
The Ball State women's basketball team returns home Wednesday against the Memphis Tigers. The game is slated to begin at 6:30 pm ET in Worthen Arena.
