MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team earned the fifth seed in this week's 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Cardinals are set to face the fourth-seeded Kent State Golden Flashes Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 11:30 a.m. ET in Oxford, Ohio.Â
Â
Ball State and Kent State will meet again for the first time since the two programs opened its conference season against one another. It was a defensive battle in Kent, Ohio which saw the Cardinals fall to the Golden Flashes by a goal (1-0) on Sept. 20.Â
Â
The Cardinals finished the regular season with an overall record of 5-12, while owning a 4-4 MAC ledger. The Golden Flashes enter the tournament with a 6-11 overall ledger and a 5-3 MAC mark.
Â
This marks the first appearance in the MAC Tourney for Ball State since the 2022 season and the second under third-year head field hockey coach Caitlin Walsh. The Cardinals fell in 2022 by a score of 2-0 to Miami.Â
Â
Ball State has a rich tradition at the MAC Tournament winning 10 titles with the last one being in 1997. That season, Ball State knocked off Miami and Kent State for the crown.Â
Â
Ball State has not won a MAC Tournament contest since 2006 which came against Miami. That year the Cardinals defeated the RedHawks 3-0 in the semifinals. Â
Â
A Ball State win will advance the Cardinals to the semifinal round game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Thursday and will take on No. 1 James Madison at 11:30 a.m. ET.
