Final Days of Voting for Ball State All-Century Team
November 15, 2024 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Celebrating the 100th season of football on the Ball State University campus, voting for the Ball State Football All-Century Team sponsored by Gainbridge enters its final weekend, with balloting scheduled to close at 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Voting opened before the Cardinals' 2024 season opener against Missouri State, and honors 110 former stars who have represented Ball State at the all-conference, All-America or NFL levels. Through nearly three months of tabulation, leading vote-getters are quarterback Nate Davis, running back Corey Croom and defensive back Shafer Suggs. Davis was a fifth-round NFL draft pick in 2009 and Croom starred with the New England Patriots for three seasons after finishing his Ball State career in 1992. Suggs was a second-team All-American in 1975 prior to becoming the highest NFL draft pick in Ball State history. He was chosen 33rd overall, in the second round of the 1976 draft by the New York Jets.Â
All-Century Team balloting closes Tuesday evening, prior to a 28-player All-Century Team being revealed during the Cardinals' final Ball State home game this season, Saturday at 2:00 p.m., against Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green. All fans who cast their votes for the All-Century Team receive a $1.00 off coupon to attend Saturday's game against the Falcons.
The team will consist of 12 offensive players, 12 defensive players, three specialists and the top remaining vote-getter from among all positions.
The 100th anniversary of Ball State's first season in 1924 coincides with the 100th season on the field, given that the Cardinals didn't field a team in 1943 due to World War II. Season-long celebrations at Scheumann Stadium are capped next weekend with the revelation of the All-Century Team.
