LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. -- Madelin Boyd, Sophie Korthuijs and JJ Gregston each shot 10-over par scores over 36 holes Monday to lead the Ball State women's golf team in the Loyola Parkinson Family Invitational. Boyd fired four birdies overall, and Korthuijs and Gregston each had five.
Korthuijs (75-79--154) led the Cardinals in the opening round with a 3-over par 75 and Boyd (76-78--154) was steady at 4-over in each round until a pair of bogeys produced a +6 second-round finish. Gregston (80-74--154) rebounded from an 8-over first round to fire all five birdies in second trip around the course and card the Cardinals' lowest round of the day.
The Cardinals (311-306--617), who were also ninth in the same event after Day 1 of competition last season, used a +18 second round to keep pace in the team standings while shaving five strokes off their opening round of +23. Tied with Illinois-Chicago (617) entering Tuesday's final round, the Cardinals and Flames trail eighth-place Omaha (616) by just one stroke and seventh-place South Dakota (614) by three. Illinois State (586) leads the team scoring, followed by Butler (594).
Added Andry: "I'm looking forward to addressing some of the mistakes from today because I think we can make major improvements for tomorrow. And I know this team will work to make the necessary corrections."

"We are a better team than we showed today," said Cardinals coach Cameron Andry. "However, I think a lot of the mistakes today were decision errors rather than execution errors. That's encouraging because it's easier to address and fix those errors. This golf course is a great challenge and it requires players to have a lot of shots and execute at a high level."
With Korthuijs, Boyd and Gregston all tied in 31st place out of 80 golfers, Jasmine Driscoll (80-76--156) bounced back from an 8-over par 80 on the first 18 holes just like Gregston did. She used a pair of birdies in the final stretch of play to finish at 76 in round two and keep the Cardinals' top four scorers within just two strokes. Sarah Gallagher (80-79--159) rounded out the Ball State lineup and Jenna Estravillo (81-75--156), playing as an individual, rose 16 spots in the standings during the second round to match Driscoll in 41st place.Added Andry: "I'm looking forward to addressing some of the mistakes from today because I think we can make major improvements for tomorrow.
