
Strong Par 5 Play Highlights Day 2 at Diamante Intercollegiate for Women's Golf

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Arkansas - - The Ball State women's golf team received even-par rounds of 72 from both sophomore JJ Gregston and junior Jasmine Driscoll on its way to a team score of +3 (291) Monday afternoon on the second day of the Diamante Intercollegiate.

The team effort, which included a +1 (73) from junior Sarah Gallagher and a career-low +2 (74) from freshman Sophie Korthuijs, tied as the 10th-best round by stroke count in program history.

The Cardinals gained a lot of the ground on the Diamante Country Club's four par-5 holes Monday, playing them at a combined -8 (4.50) among the team's four countable scores. In fact, all four countable players birdied the 490-yard, par-5 third hole.

In addition, sophomore Madelin Boyd collected her first birdie of the tournament on the 531-yard, par-5 11th hole, while sophomore Madelyn Young eagled the same hole. It was Ball State's second eagle of the season and went along with a Young birdie on the 500-yard, par-5 eighth hole.

Overall, the Cardinals six competitors combined for 15 birdies and one eagle Monday.Â

With back-to-back even-par rounds, Gregston is currently tied for 15th among the 98-golfer field at E (144). She is three strokes out of the top five, and nine strokes behind tournament leader Cynthia Zhang of Boston College who sits at -9 (135).Â

In addition, with four birdies Sunday and three more Monday, Gregston is tied for 16th among the field with seven total birdies.

As a team, the Cardinals are currently tied for ninth among the 18-team field at +10 (586). Ball State is nine strokes out of the top five, but 20 back of tournament leader Florida Gulf Coast which has a 36-hole score of -10 (566).

The final round of the Diamante Invitational is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. CT Tuesday, with tee times announced later this evening.
