FH Comes up Short Friday Night Under the Lights at App State
October 18, 2024 | Field Hockey
BOONE, N.C. - The Ball State field hockey team has been on the road for two-straight weekends making the long trip to Appalachian State Friday night for a game under the lights. Unfortunately, the Cardinals couldn't hold off the Mountaineers losing tonight's battle by a score of 3-1 at Adcock FH Complex/Jan C. Watson Field.Â
Â
With the loss, Ball State drops to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference while App State improves to 8-6 for the year and 5-1 in league play.Â
Â
The Mountaineers would get on the board first at the 7:58 mark of the opening quarter of play after App State's Henriette Stegen found the back of the cage off the assist from teammate Lise Boekaar. App State would add another score as time was winding down to take a 2-0 edge over Ball State heading into the second 15 minutes of action.Â
Â
All season long the Cardinals strong suit has been their stellar defense. Ball State was able to hold App State scoreless for the second and third periods which allowed the Cardinals to score a goal with just over a minute remaining before intermission as Maddie Summit tallied her first career goal to make it a 2-1 ball game at the half.Â
Â
Even though Ball State was able to stop the Mountaineers offense for a good stretch of tonight's match-up, App State was able to tack on one more score in the final stanza to secure its victory.Â
Defensively, Hannah Johnston was in goal as she registered seven saves to bring her career total to 457.Â
Â
The Ball State field hockey team will wrap up its two-game stretch in North Carolina when it plays at Queens Sunday at 11 am ET.
