MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State Athletics' annual Chirp or Treat event at the Cardinals' women's volleyball game on Friday, Nov. 1 highlights three different community events being conducted by Ball State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Other initiatives include a Mid-American Conference rivalry canned food drive prior to next week's Homecoming football game and a winter weather clothing drive that continues through November.
When the volleyball team hosts Eastern Michigan on Nov. 1 (6:00 p.m.), the arena will include Chirp-or-Treat guests including student-athletes from other sports plus local vendors who will provide snacks, candy and treats for kids who join the crowd. Trick or Treating on the concourse will run from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with kids receiving FREE admission with an adult ticket purchase. Single-match tickets for Friday's contest versus EMU can be purchased HERE.
Costumes are not required, but are sure to be prevalent, in an annual arena atmosphere that will include Cardinals teams stationed around the concourse to spread Halloween treats and cheer with the volleyball audience. Previous Chirp or Treat events have included local restaurants with snacks and coupons for local fans.
SAAC student-athletes also are engaged with other MAC schools in a rivalry competition to gather canned food items for Muncie Mission Food Pantry. In concert with next week's Bronze Stalk football rivalry matchup for homecoming against Northern Illinois, Ball State student-athletes are in friendly competition with NIU student-athletes to gather the most cans.
Fans attending Tuesday's field hockey match against UC Davis (Oct. 22, Noon) or next Thursday's soccer game against NIU (Oct. 24, 4:00 p.m.) may bring canned goods to deposit inside the Briner Sports Complex. Fans unable to attend these games may still donate canned goods at specially marked bins located just inside Gate 1 at Worthen Arena through Thursday, Oct 24.
SAAC's annual clothing drive also has launched, allowing fans and local residents to donate coats and other warm clothing items to aid Muncie Mission's homeless shelter and recovery center. Fans may bring any winter clothing items – socks, hats, gloves or mittens, coats, sweaters – to donation bins located at Gate 1 or Gate 4 prior to any of the Cardinals' next three home football games on Oct. 26, Nov. 5 or Nov. 23.
Muncie Mission is the official community partner of the Ball State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for 2024-25 academic year. Ball State's SAAC leadership is proud to serve the Muncie community through these efforts and others throughout the year.
