Smith & Hayward Advance to ITA Ohio Valley Regional Round of 16 Singles

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team opened play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regionals on Thursday and will continue to compete until eliminated from the event which is being held on the campus of Purdue University.
In singles, Sajin Smith along with teammate Andrew Hayward advance to the round of 16. Smith moved on after tallying a 6-1, 6-2 take down over Eastern Kentucky's Kartik Parhar in the round of 64. He would then take the University of Tennessee Chattanooga's Kristo Kincses to a three-set thriller which earned Smith the spot in Friday's final 16. Smith will play Kinceses teammate Gabriel Castillo-Sanchez in his next match.
Hayward also went 2-0 on Thursday after posting victories against Lipscomb's Facundo Perlov (4-4, 6-2, 6-3) and Vanderbilt's Giuseppe Cerasuolo (7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Hayward is scheduled to compete against University of Tennessee Chattanooga's Cortland Grove in the round of 16.
In doubles, Nathaniel Webster paired up with Jacks Lancaster in the round of 64. The Ball State duo earned an 8-7 (8-6) match win versus Indiana University's Braeden Gelletich and Lucy Boulier. Webster and Lancaster then dropped their next match due to an injury.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues to compete at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Friday. Admission to the Schwartz Tennis Center is free all weekend.
