Women’s Basketball Continues to Make History, Defeats EMU on the Road

The Cardinals have won 12 straight which is a program record
YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Cardinals continue to etch their name in the record book with their 12th-straight victory as Ball State defeated Eastern Michigan on the road 75-50 Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action at George Gervin GameAbove Center. The 12-straight wins is a program record for the Cardinals.
With the win, Ball State also improved to 18-2 on the season with its only two losses coming against national powerhouses Notre Dame and UConn. The Cardinals also remain atop of the MAC standings with an 8-0 conference mark which ties the program record for best league start in school history. The Eagles fell to 5-13 overall and 2-6 in the MAC with the loss.
All season long the Cardinals have tended to start the game off slow which was the case today in the opening quarter. Ball State only led by one (13-12) after the first stanza.
The Cardinals got stronger offensively in the second frame after Ally Becki brought her "A" game as she went 3-of-3 from the 3-pointer line. Nyla Hampton followed suit with her fast-paced offense and was able to get to the line after drawing some fouls in the paint. dynamic duo of Becki and Hampton combined for 15 points in the second quarter which helped Ball State end the first half with a 36-27 lead over Eastern Michigan at intermission.
After the break, it looked as if the Cardinals were going to run away with it as Marie Kiefer and Becki hit back-to-back baskets to push Ball State's cushion to 12 (41-29) at the 8:47 mark. The Eagles picked up their defense and were able to come within six (45-39) after a 10-4 scoring spree with just over three minutes to play in the third. Ball State was able to adjust its defense holding EMU scoreless the remainder of the third stanza to take a 47-39 edge into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Cardinals went off offensively in the final quarter out pacing the Eagles 24-9 to seal today's 25-point victory.
For the game, Becki led the team offensively with 21 points while also dishing out seven assists. Annie Rauch chipped in 11 points and Hampton ended the game with 10.
