January 27, 2024 | Track & Field
Indianapolis, Ind. — It was a weekend full of accomplishments for Ball State track and field as they competed at the Jaguar Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana Friday and Saturday.Â
Sophie Daugard and Kendra Keesling got the weekend started when both of them competed in their first pentathlon. Daugard had a great performance, walking away with a third-place finish and a lot to be proud of. The shot put proved to be her best event of the day with a first-place finish and a throw of 12.05m. Keesling was also a strong competitor, showing her strengths in the 60m hurdles and shot put.Â
Friday afternoon kicked off with the long jump where Jenelle Rogers and Emma Upp both advanced to the finals. Rogers hit a new indoor best mark of 5.93m, good for second place.Â
In the weight throw, Malena Higgins and Brooklyn Taylor both achieved a new personal best with throws of 14.06m and 12.93m.Â
The Cardinals had a couple of PRs to celebrate on Friday after Leila Williams-Molitor ran a 1:36.65 in the 600m and Maci Hoskins ran a 5:13.24 in the mile, finishing second in her heat.Â
Wrapping things up on Friday, Alana Springer had a powerful first-place finish and achieved a new indoor best in the 200m after running a time of 24.46.Â
Ball State came out just as competitive on Saturday. The morning began with the triple jump where Mckenna Cinotte and Brenna Lehrke both competed well. Cinotte finished second with a mark of 11.61m and Lehrke finished fourth with a new indoor best mark of 11.20m.Â
Rogers had another outstanding day with three first-place finishes. She started by hitting a new indoor personal best in the shot put while also moving up to the second farthest throw in Ball State indoor history with a mark of 14.79m. Rogers also recorded her third win this season in the 60m hurdles where she finished with a time of 8.58. To close out her successful day, she was the final leg of the first-place 4x400m relay team made up of Alexis Thigpen, Jenna Oriani and Emma Potter. The team pulled ahead early and crossed the finish line with a time of 3:48.30.Â
There were multiple other personal bests on the day. Autumn Spence had a huge race in the 3000m, finishing in a time of 11:25.29 during her first indoor meet as a Cardinal. In a tough 60m race, Makayla Sumrall achieved the first-place spot and a new season-best time of 7.58.Â
