January 11, 2024 | General
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell has appointed Alex Perry as deputy director of athletics, elevated from his current role as executive senior associate athletic director. Perry's new position comes as a result of Haven Fields' recent naming as deputy athletic director of administration at the University of Washington.
"We have an exceptional administration within Ball State athletics," said Mitchell, "and I am excited to continue growing the Ball State brand with Alex in this expanded role. He possesses a rich understanding of our plan to grow our department and he elevates our commitment to our culture with his contributions of intelligence and diplomacy. He is a former student-athlete who has refined his administrative skills over the past 12 years, and he has earned great respect from our coaches and staff."
Perry, who landed at Ball State in February 2022 as senior associate athletic director for internal operations, has managed oversight of the department's business office, events and facilities, equipment operations, and human resources. In addition, he has served as a member of the department's executive team and has primary sport supervision for women's basketball, women's soccer, and the men's and women's tennis programs. In his new role, Perry assumes the department's number two position while also taking over as the sport administrator for the Ball State football program.
"I am incredibly grateful to Jeff Mitchell for his belief in me and trusting me with this opportunity," said Perry. "Ball State is a special place and I look forward to serving our talented student-athletes, coaches and staff in an expanded role."
A native of Morris, Ill., Perry attended Indiana University and was an offensive lineman for the Hoosiers football program. During his time as a student-athlete, he was a three-time Academic All Big-Ten honoree. He holds two degrees from Indiana, earning an undergraduate degree in management (2010) and a master's degree in athletic administration/sport management (2011). He holds one degree from Butler University, earning a master's degree in business administration (2018). He also is an active member of the College Athletic Business Managers Association (CABMA), where he has served on the membership and programming committees, and as a mentor in the organization's mentorship program.
He and his wife, Danielle, are the proud parents of Grace, Olivia, and Jack.
