Carter Smith earns MAC Men's Golfer of the Week honors

Sparking Ball State in its season-opening rounds at the Golfweek Collegiate Kickoff hosted by the University of Missouri, sophomore Carter Smith finished all three rounds under par to earn the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week award. Making his season debut, Smith wrapped up the 54-hole event with 15 birdies and an eagle. His 15 birdies was tied for second-best out of the 72-player field along with the eagle. The sophomore sensation shot a 69 for the first two rounds and then ended action Tuesday with a 71 for seven under par.

Smith finished third overall, behind Alex Price of LSU and Missouri's Jack Lundin. The Cardinals finished fourth as a team, trailing only LSU, Missouri and Stetson.
