Field Hockey Sweeps MAC Weekly Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - For their play last weekend helping Ball State post victories over Ohio and Saint Louis, senior Hannah Johnston and sophomore Fleur Knopert were named the Mid-American Conference's Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.Â

Knopert continues to be a strong force offensively for the Cardinals as she helped propel Ball State to back-to-back victories this weekend over Ohio and Saint Louis. Knopert began the week off strong after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to push the Cardinals past Ohio University by a score of 2-1 Friday afternoon at Pruitt Field. Knopert also dished out an assist for Cardinals first goal versus the Bobcats.Â

On Sunday, Knopert found the back of the cage with just under nine minutes remaining to give Ball State the 2-1 edge over Saint Louis which ended up also being the game-winning goal.Â

For the week, Knopert scored two game-winning goals, scored four points, dished out two assists and had six shots on goal. Knopert now has scored five goals for the season and has 14 for her career.

Johnston was a force to be reckoned with in her two full games of goal keeping this past weekend. Johnston faced 33 shots while only allowing two goals to be scored in total versus Ohio and Saint Louis. She started the weekend with a win for the Cardinals versus Ohio after facing nine corners while also registering nine saves.Â

On Sunday, she again helped Ball State to its third victory in row as she fended off Saint Louis. Johnston played a total of 126.43 minutes behind the cage for BSU this past weekend.

The Ball State field hockey team will be back in action Friday at the Briner Sports Complex at 2 pm ET against Central Michigan.
