Women’s Tennis Completes First Fall Tourney of the Season

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team completed its three-day weekend at the Belmont/Lipscomb Fall Invite Sunday afternoon. The event was a hidden dual format and marked the first competition for newly appointed head coach Sachin Kirtane.
The Cardinals had success both in singles and doubles.
In singles, BSU won matches against both host Belmont and Lipscomb. Newcomer Isabele Tanjuacto took down the Bruins Libbie Hamilton, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. In Sarah Shahbaz's Cardinal debut, she tallied a 6-2, 6-1 defeat against Belmont's Aly Getty while Jacqueline Pearsall defeated Lipscomb's Anja Trbeznik, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. Elena Malykh and Ella Hazelbaker rounded out the singles competition after posting wins versus Lipscomb, both in straight sets.
In doubles, Planinsek paired up with Sydney Hrehor and went onto beat Belmont's duo of Mario Hlahola and Anastasiya Zholdakova, 6-3. The twosome of Pearsall and Shahbaz also were victorious against the Bruins' doubles tandem of Hamilton and Getty, 6-2.
Against Lipscomb, Maliykh alongside teammate Hazelbaker earned a victory while Planinsek and Shahbaz defeated Arkansas State in their double's competition.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues its fall season at the UC/Pam Whitehead Invite which will be hosted by the University of Cincinnati, Oct. 6-7.
