Men’s Tennis Wraps up Day One of James O’Connell Memorial Fall Tourney

DAYTON, Ohio - The Ball State men's tennis team wrapped up its first day of action at the James O'Connell Memorial Tournament which was hosted by Dayton Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals began the day with a singles match against Northern Kentucky. Jacks Lancaster and Broc Fletcher each tallied straight set victories over their respective opponents. Lancaster took down Brandon Ponomarew, 6-4, 7-5 while Fletcher beat Trevor Ball, 6-1, 6-4. Rounding out the wins against NKU for Ball State was Parrish Simmons after winning a two-set tiebreaker.
Ball State's midafternoon competition was doubles play versus host Dayton. Newcomer Mason Tran teamed up with Simmons for a 6-3 defeat against the Flyer's Sai Dore and Erik Eliasson. The BSU duo of Lancaster and freshman Drew Hayward also claimed a doubles victory against Dayton's Eric Suk and Luis Saraiva, 6-4.
The Cardinals ended the day with six singles matches versus Xavier. Ball State took four of those six matches from the Musketeers.
The Ball State men's tennis team closes out its first fall competition Saturday at the James O'Connell Memorial Tournament when it plays a round of singles against Dayton at 8:45 a.m. ET and two rounds of doubles against NKU (2 pm ET) and Xavier (3:30 pm ET).
