May 04, 2023 | Track & Field
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Allison Valladay and Charity Griffith went two for two for this week's track and field athlete of the week awards in the Mid-American Conference. After their performances at the Outdoor Music City Challenge last weekend in Nashville, Tenn., the Cardinals were awarded with this week's accolades.Â
Freshman Allison Valladay led her 4x400m quartet team to a second place finish at the Outdoor Music City Challenge last weekend. She set the tone for their 3:44.93 finish in her first leg, and the 4x400m relay squad sits at second in the MAC. In the 400m, she notched a heat win to qualify her for the finals. She placed seventh in the 400m finals with a time of 55.64, a mark that places her at 4th in the MAC for the 400m.
Senior Charity Griffith set an outdoor program record in the high jump and won the event at last weekend's Outdoor Music City Challenge, clearing six feet, and jumping 1.85m / 6-0.75. The previous school record was shared by Griffith and Bonita Harrington. Harrington notched the 6-0.5 / 1.84m record in 1984, and Griffith tied it in 2022 only to break it again on Saturday. Griffith now holds the program record in the indoor and outdoor high jump for Ball State. Her mark now ranks first in the MAC in the high jump and seventh in the nation.
The Cardinals are now preparing for the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Akron, Ohio from May 11-13.Â
