May 31, 2023 | Softball
CLEVELAND - - The Ball State softball team placed nine student-athletes on the 2023 Academic All-Mid-American Team as announced by the league office Wednesday (May 31).
Â
Leading the group are a pair of three-time honorees in redshirt senior Jazmyne Armendariz and senior Haley Wynn.
Â
Four Cardinals earn the award for the second time in their careers, including junior Hannah Dukeman, redshirt freshman Emma Eubank, junior Kaitlyn Mathews, and junior Remington Ross.
Â
Ball State also saw three student-athletes honored for the first time in their careers: sophomore Kaitlyn Gibson, redshirt freshman McKenna Mulholland, and sophomore Angelina Russo.
Â
A total of 96 student-athletes earned the Academic All-MAC distinction in softball by maintaining at least a 3.2 GPA and participating in at least half of the team's contests for the season, with an exemption to the 50 percent rule for pitchers.
Â
First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, Academic All-MAC was not awarded in softball for the 2020 season but resumed in 2021.
Â
The Ball State softball team closed the 2023 season with a 27-26 overall record, including a 17-14 mark in MAC play. The Cardinals, who earned the fourth seed in the MAC Tournament, finished the season with the ninth-best team batting average in program history at .293.
