Softball Falls in Series Opener versus Toledo
April 07, 2023 | Softball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State softball team came up short against Toledo Friday afternoon, suffering a 5-1 setback at the Softball Field at First Merchants Ballpark Complex.Â
With the wind blowing in on a blustery afternoon in Muncie, the Cardinals (16-18, 6-6 MAC) saw the Rockets (12-18, 5-7 MAC) jump out to an early 2-0 lead.Â
Â
Ball State answered in the bottom half of the first with a double from redshirt freshman right fielder McKenna Mulholland which advanced senior shortstop Amaia Daniel to third. Daniel, who singled up the middle, crossed the plate on a wild pitch to cut the lead in half.Â
Â
Unfortunately, the Rockets would add two more in the top of the third and one in the top of the sixth to stretch their lead to four. Despite the Cardinals bringing the tying run to the plate in bottom of the seventh, a line drive to second with bases loaded would end the game.Â
