April 14, 2023 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - It was a beautiful sunny day for the Cardinals first home outdoor match of the season at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
Ball State played well, earning the 7-0 sweep over the Binghamton Bearcats Friday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action.
The Cardinals (12-9, 4-5 MAC) took the early 1-0 edge over the Bearcats (4-19, 0-9 MAC) after earning doubles victories on courts two and one, respectively.
The No. 2 duo of Vince Orlando and Eli Herran jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. The twosome didn't give up a game to Bonnie Morais and James McPherson, winning the match 6-0.
The Bearcats evened doubles play by taking court No. 3 from BSU but the Cardinals' top twosome of Danilo Kovacevic and Nathaniel Webster fought back to earn the 7-6 (7-0) victory versus Michael Pawlowicz and Ronin Lotlikar to claim the doubles point.
In singles, the Cardinals continued to dominate play taking all six courts from the Bearcats. Broc Fletcher's 6-4, 6-4 win over the Bearcats' No. 6 player Andrew Fang would be the fourth point the Cardinals needed to take the match from Binghamton.
Webster, Orlando, Kovacevic, Herran along with Sajin Smith would also take down their respective opponents today in straight sets.
The Ball State men's tennis team will close out its MAC regular season play when it hosts Buffalo Sunday at 1 pm ET. The match will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting or indoors at the Northwest YMCA.
