April 12, 2023 | Men's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Ball State men's golf team completed the Mason Rudolph Championship in 11th place against a very competitive pool of teams and players.
Â
The Cardinals faced competition from seven of the top-50 teams in the country, including #1 ranked Vanderbilt and #14 ranked Tennessee.
Â
"I was really proud of how we competed over the final two rounds of the tournament," said head coach Mike Fleck. "If we could've matched up round one scores with the field a little bit better, we would have had a strong finish against a bunch of highly ranked teams…. but playing the last two rounds under par is definitely some positive momentum we can take into Purdue."
Â
Sophomore Kash Bellar notched another top-20 finish after three rounds of play, finishing at 3-under today (74-70-68—212) and tied for 18th place. Bellar's hole-in-one during round one and his consistent play earned him a top-20 finish as he led the Cardinals.
Â
Joey Ranieri played a solid round today, finishing at 2-under (78-70-69—217) and consistently improving throughout each round. Ranieri finished tied for 35th after his strong performance today.
Â
Ali Khan finished at 1-under for round three (73-80-70—223), ending the tournament tied for 62nd place. Khan tallied five birdies today in a solid round of play. Carter Smith finished at 3-over today (77-73-74—224), ending round three tied for 66th place. Evan Bone finished at 5-over for round three (77-73-78—228), finishing three rounds of play in 80th place.
Â
"Kash continues to give us great production, with another top-20 finish. It was fun to watch his hole in one come up on the scoreboard on day one! We also got quality rounds from Joey and Ali that helped us move up the leader broad in the final round," Fleck continued. "Now we have a quick turnaround to Purdue with another opportunity to compete in a great field."
Â
The Cardinals head to Purdue for the Boilermaker Invitational on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15 in Lafayette, Indiana.
