WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Ball State men's golf team finished rounds two and three of the Boilermaker Invitational today, finishing in seventh place (297-280-291—868).
Leading the Cardinals were Griffin Hare and Carter Smith, finishing tied for 30th place. Smith finished at 1-over today (74-71-72—217) while Hare finished round two at 3-over and round three at 2-over (70-74-73—217). Smith recorder four birdies in round three.
Ali Khan played his best round in round two, finishing at 2-under and at 2-over in round three (77-69-73—219) to finish tied for 42nd place.
Kash Bellar finished round two even and round three at 2-over, finishing tied for 47th place (76-71-73—220). Joey Ranieri played his best round in round two finishing at 2-under and ending the day in 59th place (77-69-79—225).
Evan Bone, who competed as an individual, finished in 60th place (77-75-74—226).
"Similar to Vanderbilt, we got off to a slow start with our top guys struggling, but to the team's credit, we bounced back this morning with a really solid team score with four under par rounds and significant improvement from round one," said head coach Mike Fleck. "The final round the wind picked up and greens were firmer. We did a nice job of managing it and holding on to finish right in the middle of the pack. With no real standout performances individually, it really put us in a tough spot to move up more. We now have a week to catch up, rest, recover and get ready for Illinois."
The Cardinals compete next at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate in Urbana, Illinois on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23.
