March 30, 2023 | Men's Golf
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Freshman Carter Smith was named the MAC Men's Golfer of the Week after his consistent performance and first-place win at the Don Benbow Butler Invitational.
The Sellersburg, Ind. native led the Cardinals to a first-place team finish throughout three rounds of the Butler Invitational, breaking the 54-hole individual Ball State program record of 201, set by Patrick Wilkes-Krier in 2006, with his final tally of 199. Smith finished at 4-under in round one, 5-under in round two, and 2-under in round three, (66-65-68—199), securing first place after a stand-out performance. He broke his own career-low score in the first round, finishing at 4-under (66) and broke it yet again in round two finishing at 5-under (65).
Smith directly contributed to Ball State breaking the previous 54-hole team score program record of 824 with the Cardinals' final tally of 818 at the Butler Invitational.
The Cardinals will look to carry this momentum into their next competition when they travel to #1 ranked Vanderbilt for the Mason Rudolph Championship on April 10-12 in Franklin, Tennessee.
