Men’s Golf With Record-Breaking Performance on Day One of Butler Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Ball State men's golf team broke the single round record for team score with their tally of 266 in the second round of the Don Benbow Butler Invitational. The Cardinals finished the first two rounds in first place after being paired with Butler, Cleveland State and IUPUI.
All five Cardinals finished day one of the Butler Invite in the top-25 for the individual standings.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was Carter Smith, finishing 36 holes in first place at 9-under (66-65--131). Smith recorded a career-low in the first round, scoring at 4-under (66) and broke it yet again in round two scoring at 5-under (65). Smith tallied 12 total birdies during the first day of competition.
Ali Khan wasn't far behind and ended the day tied for second place, finishing at 2-under in round one and at 3-under in round two (68-67—135). Khan recorded 10 birdies across the two rounds of play. Kash Bellar is tied for seventh after two rounds of play. Bellar scored an even 70 in round one and finished at 1-under in round two (70-69—139).
Joey Ranieri ended day one tied for 17th, finishing at 6-over in round one (76) and at 5-under after round two (76-65—141). Griffin Hare is tied for 25th finishing round one at 2-over and breaking even in round two (72-70—142).
The final round of the Don Benbow Butler Invitational begins at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with a shotgun start. The Cardinals will be paired with Butler, Indian Hills CC, and Purdue Fort Wayne, and will start on holes 1, 2, 3A, 3B, and 4.
