Ball State Returns to North Carolina for Three Non-Conference Matchups

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team is back on the road for four games at Wake Forest beginning Friday. The Cardinals will face three different opponents during the weekend.
The Cardinals are coming off 3-1 weekend at the Swig & Swine. Ryan Brown and Ryan Peltier continued to be outstanding, as both collected MAC weekly honors for a Ball State sweep. Brown was also named a NCBWA Co-Pitcher of the Week.
The Cardinals enter the weekend with a 4-4 record. Ball State will face Cornell and Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, followed by a matchup with No. 3 Wake Forest on Saturday. The Cardinals close out the weekend against the Mastodons.
Gold Glove Peltier
At the conclusion of last season, Peltier was honored as the best defensive third baseman in the NCAA and received an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove. After being named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and earning a spot on the All-MAC Second Team for back-to-back seasons, Peltier was awarded the first Gold Glove in BSU history. He was a 2023 Preseason All-American honoree from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Peltier led the team with a .529 batting average last weekend. He scored a team-high six times and was tied for the team lead in RBIs with four. he was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. He added a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000, with four putouts and three assists.
For the season, Peltier leads the way with a .519 batting average, four home runs, seven RBIs, and 14 hits. He is also a perfect 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts.
What Can Brown Do for You?
Ryan Brown was named the No. 49 prospect in college baseball by D1 Baseball. Brown was the only Mid-American Conference player selected to the top-100 list. He was also tabbed as one of the top mid-major prospects for the 2023 season. Brown also landed on the 2023 MLB Draft: Rising Righthanded Pitchers watch list. Last season, Brown earned recognition as a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman All-American along with the MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year. He also earned a spot on the All-MAC Second Team.
Brown was electric on the mound for the Cardinals. He made two appearances in relief. He picked up two wins in 6 1/3 innings of work. He finished the week with 17 strikeouts and just one walk. Against Canisius, he struck out 12 of the 13 batters he faced. He did not give up a hit. For the weekend, he faced 20 batters and struck out 17.
Brown currently leads the NCAA with 22.09 strikeouts per nine innings and in total strikeouts with 27. He has tossed 11 innings and surrendered just one hit. He leads the team with a 0.00 ERA and is 3-0.

Noah Keller is slated to get the start on the mound against Ball State. Keller as an 18.00 ERA in three innings of work. He has given up six earned runs on four hits. Cardinals vs. Mastodons: The Series
The Cardinals hold a 22-2 record against the Mastodons and have won the last nine contests. Ball State won the last meeting, 9-4, on March 10, 2020.
Scouting Purdue Fort Wayne (1-7)
Jarrett Bickel leads Purdue Fort Wayne with a .334 batting average. He has 11 hits, scored five runs, has three RBIs, and has two doubles. Caileb Johnson is second on the team with a .333 batting average with nine hits, eight RBIs, three runs scored, and one home run. He has a team-best five doubles, which is tied for 14th in the NCAA. Jacob Myer leads the Mastodons with 12 strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings of work. He has a 6.75 ERA in two starts. Rex Stills has made two starts for the Mastodons and has thrown 9 1/3 innings. Ball State and Wake Forest have met four times in program history. The two squads have split the meetings 2-2. The Cardinals have won the last two meetings, including a 6-5 victory in Winston-Salem on March 14, 2007.

As a team, the Demon Deacons lead the nation with 85 walks, hits with 132, an on-base percentage of .499, runs with 130, a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6.57, and are just one of nine undefeated teams remaining in college baseball. Sean Sullivan is expected to get the start on the mound against the Cardinals. Sullivan has an ERA of 0.00 in 10 innings of work. He is fourth in the NCAA with 21 strikeouts. He has only surrendered two hits and walked one batter. Tommy Hawke leads the squad with a .525 batting average, which is 14th in the NCAA. He leads the country with 21 hits. Brock Wilken leads the Deacs with seven homers, which is second in the nation. He is hitting .342 on the season. Adam Cecere is second on the team with a .429 batting average and second in home runs with six. Cecere is tied for third in the country in home runs.
