
Griffith Earns All-American Honors after NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - -Â Ball State track & field senior Charity Griffith has been breaking records all season and she did it again Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
By successfully clearing 1.85m (6'-0.75") in the high jump, Griffith became the Cardinals' highest ever finisher at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a fifth place showing. The effort also earned her First Team All-American status for the event at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The two-time reigning Mid-American Conference indoor high jump champion, Griffith cleared her first three heights on her first attempt; 1.77m (5'-9.75"), 1.82m (5'-11.5"), and 1.85m (6'-0.75"). The effort earned her the tiebreaker over a pair of athletes who failed in their first attempt at 1.85m (6'-0.75").
Griffith's high jump performance came after she took 13th in the pentathlon Friday with a score of 4,138. Her best effort was in the high jump, as she led all pentathlon competitors by clearing 1.81m (5'-11.25").
She would also place 10th among the pentathlon field in the shot put (11.90m / 39'-0.5"), 12th in the 800m (2:24.13), 13th in the 60m hurdles (8.68), and 14th in the long jump (5.66m / 18'-7").Â
The Arlington, Indiana, native is just the second Ball State track & field student-athlete to compete in multiple events in the NCAA Indoor Championships in the same season. She is also the third athlete in program history to earn All-American honors for two consecutive years.Adrian Wheatley.
