LYNCHBURG, Va. - - Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Ball State softball team closed play in the Liberty Flames Classic with a 10-2 (5) loss to 23rd-ranked Maryland Saturday morning at Kamphuis Field.

Second baseman McKenna Mulholland opened the scoring for the Cardinals (10-11), smashing a two-run triple down the right field line in the top of the first inning.

Unfortunately, the Terps (18-4) responded with 10 unanswered runs to secure their ninth consecutive win.

HIGHLIGHTS

Mulholland's two-run triple in the first inning was her team-leading third of the season … It was also BSU's sixth triple of the year.
Third baseman Haley Wynn added BSU's only other hit in the game with a double to center field to open the third inning.
Bridie Murphy started the game for the Cardinals, limiting the Terps to four hits and one run over the first 2.0 innings.
