No. 23 Maryland Rallies Past Softball

LYNCHBURG, Va. - - Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Ball State softball team closed play in the Liberty Flames Classic with a 10-2 (5) loss to 23rd-ranked Maryland Saturday morning at Kamphuis Field.

Second baseman McKenna Mulholland opened the scoring for the Cardinals (10-11), smashing a two-run triple down the right field line in the top of the first inning.

Unfortunately, the Terps (18-4) responded with 10 unanswered runs to secure their ninth consecutive win.

The Ball State softball team will now turn its attention to Mid-American Conference play, as it is scheduled to travel to Kent State next weekend for a single game Friday at 3 p.m. and a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.

- Mulholland's two-run triple in the first inning was her team-leading third of the season … It was also BSU's sixth triple of the year.
- Third baseman Haley Wynn added BSU's only other hit in the game with a double to center field to open the third inning.
- Bridie Murphy started the game for the Cardinals, limiting the Terps to four hits and one run over the first 2.0 innings.

- T1 | Mulholland opened the scoring with a two-run triple down the right field line, driving in Wynn who walked and shortstop Amaia Daniel who was hit by a pitch (2-0)
- B1 | Amelia Lech gets Maryland on the board with an RBI single to left field (2-1)
- B3 | Trin Schlotterbeck tied the score with an RBI single to right center (2-2)
- B4 | Lech picks up three more RBI on a bases loaded double down the left field line (2-5)
- B4 | Two batters later, Schlotterbeck collected her second RBI of the game with a single to left field (2-6)
- B5 | With two on, an RBI single to left center from Kiley Goff drove in a run (2-7)
- B5 | A squeeze bunt from Sydney Lewis worked to perfection, bringing in another run (2-8)
- B5 | Campbell Kline ended the game with a two-run single to right center (2-10)
