
T&F Takes Second Place at MAC Indoor Championships

BOWLING GREEN, OHIO – The Ball State track and field team finished the Mid-American Conference indoor championships taking second place overall with 83 points. The Cardinals collected several individual medals with their performances along with individual accolades.
Scoring 83 points as a team, the Cardinals earned the most points as a program since 2008. This is the best place since the Cardinals took second in 2006.
Senior Charity Griffith was named the MVP after earning 26 solo points. Griffith tallied a personal record in the high jump, scoring 1.90m / 6-2.75. Freshman Alana Springer was named the MAC freshman of the year after her strong performances.The Cardinals had three top-three performances today, including an event win for Kayla Jones in the 800m (2:08.94), and two third place finishes from junior Alexis Thigpen in the 400m (56.69) and Alana Springer in the 60m (7.55).
Jones won the 800m for the second year in a row and ran a personal best in the event (2:08.94).
Thigpen and junior Jenelle Rogers each earned their first top-three medals with their performances.
"It brings me immense pride to express my admiration for our team and staff. Their unwavering effort, dedication, and support towards each other has culminated in our highest indoor team finish in several years. Throughout the competition, our team gained momentum and exhibited true camaraderie with the Cardinals showing up for each other," said head coach Adrian Wheatley. "I'm thrilled to share that we witnessed some exceptional performances, with individuals achieving lifetime and personal bests, securing top-three finishes, and setting facility, conference, and championship records. The MAC Championship was a sight to behold, and the Cardinals undoubtedly put on a remarkable show. We are now riding high on momentum as we gear up for the NCAA championship in a few weeks. I'm eagerly looking forward to continuing our post-season journey and preparing for the outdoor campaign."
