MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team (6-3) handed Xavier (6-3) its third loss of the season after earning a 6-1 victory against the Musketeer's at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals got an early start today over the Musketeers jumping ahead to a 1-0 lead after taking all three doubles courts from Xavier.
Vince Orlando alongside Nathaniel Webster earned a 6-3 decision at the top spot. Pretty much the remainder of the two courts finished at the exact same time with Danilo Kovacevic and doubles partner Parrish Simmons winning on court No. 2 (6-2) and then Eli Herran, who paired up with Jacks Lancaster, were victorious at the No. 3 slot (6-3).
Herran would start the Cardinals off hot in singles action. He made a quick exit after a straight set (6-1, 6-3) victory versus the Musketeer's No. 4 singles player Kyle Totorica. Lancaster pushed Ball State's lead over Xavier to 3-0 after beating Jorge Santamaria at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-4.
With four courts remaining and one point left to win the match for Ball State, Sajin Smith came through for the Cardinals again taking down the Musketeer's Marco Pennelli 6-3, 6-4 on court No. 5.
Webster took a three-set thriller at the top court and Kovacevic won a two-set tiebreaker to round out today's victories for the Cardinals.
