Herran’s Singles Win Clinches 4-3 Match for Men’s Tennis at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team won the doubles point and earned three singles wins to defeat Big Ten foe Purdue on the road, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
With the scored tied 3-3, the Cardinals fate came down to junior Eli Herran at the No. 4 singles position. Herran dropped the first set to Purdue's Milledge Cossu, 6-7 (3) but rallied back to take frames two (7-5) and three (6-2) to clinch match point for Ball State.
The Cardinals (5-3) took two of the three courts from the Boilermakers (1-7) in doubles. Herran and Jacks Lancaster claimed the first point of the match for Ball State after taking down Cossul and Mujtaba Alikhan, 7-6 (4) on court No. 3.
In singles, senior Danilo Kovacevic, and sophomore Nathaniel Webster, each earned victories on court No. 3 and No. 1, respectively to give Ball State the 3-1 edge over Purdue.
The Boilermakers took the next two courts from the Cardinals to even the score.
Herran then went the distance for Ball State and finished atop of Cossu in three sets.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns home Friday to host Xavier at the Northwest YMCA. First serve is at 2 pm ET.
