Soccer Leads League With 14 Academic All-MAC Selections

CLEVELAND - - The Ball State soccer program placed a league-high 14 student-athletes on the 2023 Academic All-Mid-American Conference team as released by the league office Wednesday (Dec. 6).

It is the third straight season the Cardinals have led the league in Academic All-MAC selections, with 15 last season and 18 during the 2021 campaign.

Earning the honor in all three of those seasons are seniors Maria Broering and Avery Fenchel.

Six Cardinals picked up the honor for the second straight season: junior Lexi Fraley, junior Kaitlyn Fraser, senior Ryann Locante, junior Alex McPhee, junior Maya Millis and redshirt junior Bethany Moser.

Ball State also had six first-time honorees in sophomore Sami Bird, sophomore Delaney Caldwell, sophomore Tori Monaco, senior Paige Munar, sophomore Emily Roper and sophomore Kira Verburg.

Broering, Fraley and Roper achieved the honor while maintaining a flawless 4.0 GPA.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who excel in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their sport. First-year students and any transfer in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

A total of 129 student-athletes were honored in the sport of women's soccer this season, with 15 maintaining at 4.0 GPA.
