MINNEAPOLIS – The Ball State men's basketball team trailed by seven points with 7:36 to play after being down by as many as 17 points in the first half, but Minnesota pulled away late on Thursday night at Williams Arena to win 80-63.
The Cardinals (8-4) got 26 points, seven rebounds and four blocks from Jalin Anderson, who led the charge midway through the second period, but the Golden Gophers (9-3) edged a short-handed Ball State group 16-6 in the final seven minutes to prevail.
Anderson hit a jumper with 10:54 to play to cut Minnesota's advantage to 55-48, and again cut the deficit to seven when he converted an and-1 to make the score 64-57 in favor of the Gophers. Ball State would get no closer from there on out.
