Soccer Places Six On Academic All-District Squad

INDIANAPOLIS - - Six members of the Ball State soccer program were named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, as announced by the organization earlier this week.

Representing the Cardinals were sophomore midfielder Delaney Caldwell, senior forward Avery Fenchel, junior forward Lexi Fraley, junior defender Maya Millis, redshirt junior goalkeeper Bethany Moser and sophomore forward Emily Roper.

To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

Caldwell earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career after leading the Ball State offense with six assists on the season. The 2022 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year and back-to-back Second Team All-MAC selection, Caldwell also scored a pair of goals to rank fourth on the squad with 10 points this past season.

Fenchel earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career after ranking second in the MAC and 37th nationally with 11 goals scored. A First Team All-MAC selection in each of the past two seasons, she ranked third in the MAC and 40th nationally with four match-winning goals. Fenchel, who ranks fourth in program history with 24 career goals, also tallied her first collegiate assist this season.

Fraley earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career after ranking third in the MAC and 53rd nationally with 10 goals scored. Named the first MAC Offensive Player of the Year in program history this season, the two-time First Team All-MAC selection also ranked among the nation's leaders in shots (59) and shots on goal (30). In addition to her goal total, Fraley dished out three assists and led Ball State's forwards with 1,427 minutes of play.

Millis earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career after helping anchor the Ball State back line. She led the Cardinals' field players with 1,629 minutes on the pitch, helping BSU register three shutouts and limit opponents to just one goal in eight other matches. Millis also finished the season with three assists.

Moser earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career after starting all 19 matches in goal for the Cardinals. She finished the season with three shutouts, including one combined, while allowing just 1.52 goals per game. Moser also led all MAC players and ranked 10th nationally with a Ball State single season record 114 saves. In addition, her 5.95 saves-per-match average was 17th nationally.

Roper earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career after ranking third on the team in both goals and points this past season. Her six goals ranked eighth in the MAC, while she added two assists to finish 11th in the conference with 14 points. Roper also ranked second on the squad with 34 shots and third with 18 shots on goal over her 1,232 minutes in the field.

The 2023 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
