Ball State Golfers Are Eighth After Two Rounds at Purdue Fall Invite
October 09, 2023 | Men's Golf
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Braxton Kuntz paced the Ball State men's golf team through the first two rounds of the Purdue Fall Invite at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course, and teammates Alec Cesare and Ali Khan scorched the par-71 course in the second round to help lift the Cardinals into eighth place leading into Tuesday's final round.
Braxton was steady on Monday, completing 32 of 36 holes at par or better – exactly one hole over par on the front and back of the course in both rounds. His 2-under par total (71-69—140) puts him in a seventh-place tie with seven other golfers. He enters Tuesday's final round one stroke out of sixth place, and two out of fifth.
Cesare and Khan paced the Cardinals as they rose four spots in team standings during the second round, similar to last week's showing at the Badger Invitational. Cesare fired a 3-under par 68 in his final 18 holes and Khan shot a 2-under 69. Reigning Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week Kash Bellar shot par during the club's strong second round in which every golfer shot at least two strokes better than his opening round.
The Cardinals begin play on Tuesday three strokes out of sixth place, and four out of fourth. Ball State is one stroke ahead of MAC rival Miami.
Rounding out the Ball State lineup – competing as an individual – Trey Wilson shot 7-over par over two rounds to tie for 62nd place (out of 84 golfers), with teammate Carter Smith.
Braxton Kuntz: 36-35—71 | 35-34—69 (140)
Alec Cesare: 36-39—75 | 34-34—68 (143)
