MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State University's Faculty Athletics Representative the past six years while serving as professor of sport and exercise psychology and chairperson for the School of Kinesiology, Dr. Lindsey Blom has accepted a new challenge as associate director of athletics for championship performance.
Blom takes on a newly created position that emphasizes the need to fuel and support Cardinal student-athletes, working with Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell to address athletes' physical and mental needs to drive Ball State performance to new heights. A former soccer player and coach, her role will enhance department supervision of sports medicine, strength and conditioning, mental health and nutritional programming.
"The hiring of Dr. Blom is an integral step toward accomplishing our goal to provide our student-athletes, coaches, and staff with an organized approach to health, well-being, and competitive excellence," said Mitchell. "Dr. Blom is a well-respected educator and administrator who exemplifies our commitment to developing leaders and winners through the platform of intercollegiate athletics. I look forward to partnering with her to establish a new and exciting program to best prepare our people and teams for broad-based success."
"The opportunity to be part of an inaugural position designed to oversee holistic and collaborative student-athlete performance, well-being and healthcare is tremendously exciting," said Blom. "I believe Ball State can lead the way in innovative approaches to performance excellence, maximizing partnerships on campus and in the community, in order to support our student-athletes."
With a doctoral degree in sport psychology and master's degrees in kinesiology and counseling, Dr. Blom has a high level of content expertise around holistic student-athlete performance and well-being, specifically related to sport psychology, sports science, and academic success. Throughout her academic career, Blom has presented at numerous national and international conferences, co-authored over 70 journal articles, and received over a million dollars in externally funded grants. In 2021 she was awarded the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success and began work as the Mental Health Expert on the National Federation of High School Associations' Sports Medicine Advisory Board.
