Field Hockey Falls in Defensive MAC Battle on Senior Day to App State
October 20, 2023 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - From start to finish the Cardinals and Mountaineers battled it out defensively in today's Mid-American Conference showdown but unfortunately for Ball State an early score from App State led to a 1-0 loss Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
Â
Although, the outcome didn't turn out the way the Cardinals had hoped for Ball State the Cardinals played tough defense the entire 60-minute duration of today's contest. With the loss, Ball State dropped to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in MAC play while App State extends its win streak to six, improving to 11-4 and 5-1 in conference action.Â
Â
Another factor in today's slim loss to App State were penalty corners with the Mountaineers leading that category with six while the Cardinals only had four.
Â
The offensive tempo of the game was controlled mostly by App State. A quick score at the 7:20 mark unassisted from the Mountaineers Lisa Boekaar would end up being the lone goal of the day and the game-winner.Â
Â
Both teams fired off 11 shots and Ball State tallied eight shots on goal but was unable to connect on those attempts.Â
Â
Prior to today's contest the Cardinals paid tribute to their seniors Hannah Johnston, Rachel Bohn, Elyse Horner, Michaela Graney, Paloma Gomez Rengifo, Maureen Donegan and Emma Hilton along with saying good-bye to their graduate students Libby Kraus and Kerrianne McClay.Â
Â
With three contests left, the Ball State field hockey team will play Queens University of Charlotte Sunday in non-conference action at a neutral site in Louisville, Ky. at Trager Stadium. That game is set to begin at 3:30 pm ET.
