Griffith, Jones earn qualification for NCAA East Prelims

Charity Griffith, Kayla Jones set to compete in NCAA East Prelims next week in Bloomington, Ind.
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State track and field's Charity Griffith and Kayla Jones have earned qualification into the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships, it was announced by the NCAA. Griffith is set to compete in the high jump, while Jones will take part in the 800-meter run.
Griffith's high jump mark of 1.81m set at Hurricane Collegiate Invitational (March 26) is tied for the 14th-best mark in the field and the 28th-highest jump nationally. The Arlington, Ind. native won the high jump at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships at 1.76m. She also claimed the indoor title earlier this season after clearing a career-best height of 1.85m.
Jones' 800-meter time of 2:06.54 at the Jesse Owens Classic (April 23) currently sits 46th among competitors in the region. The Westerville, Ohio native captured her first MAC title in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.61, a day after qualifying for the finals with a run of 2:09.82.
The NCAA East Prelims are scheduled to take place May 25-28 in Bloomington, Ind. Jones runs the 800 Thursday, May 26 at 7:50 p.m. ET, while Griffith competes in the high jump Saturday, May 28 at 2:30 p.m. ET. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11.
