Cole, Klein Sweep MAC Weekly Honors
May 02, 2022 | Baseball
CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly Player and Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Zach Cole and Sam Klein earned MAC Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, to give Ball State baseball the sweep of weekly honors.
Cole was outstanding at the plate for the Cardinals against the Chippewas. He posted a .500 batting average and led the team with three home runs. He notched his NCAA-leading seventh triple during the weekend. He produced a team-high nine RBIs to go along with a team-best 1.286 slugging percentage. Defensively, he was just as stellar. He recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. He made a phenomenal diving catch on a full sprint in the left field gap. He also made a leaping catch as he crashed into the wall, both of those catches kept the Chippewas off the scoreboard.
Klein was outstanding for the Cardinals out of the bullpen. He recorded two saves and moved his MAC-leading total to nine. He recorded a two-inning save in the series opener against CMU and added another on Saturday's 10-7 victory. He picked up a win in Sunday's game as he went 1 1/3 innings in relief with three strikeouts. He held CMU scoreless for 4 1/3 innings in three appearances and surrendered just two hits. He notched six strikeouts and three walks for the weekend. This is Klein's second Pitcher of the Week accolade this season.
Ball State returns to action for a four-game MAC series at Kent State. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, May 6.
