
Cardinals Soar for Two Victories Over Rockets on Saturday

Ball State improved to 17-8 overall and 12-1 in MAC play, while Toledo fell to 12-14 overall and 6-8 in league play.
Amir Wright extended his hitting streak to 12 games and has reached safely in all 25 games this season. Nick Powell and Justin Conant both have reached safely in 10-straight contests.
Game One – Ball State 7, Toledo 3
Adam Christianson put the first run on the board with a solo home run to deep left field to start the top of the second inning.

Wright singled up the middle to get things started in the top of the third. Trenton Quartermaine reached on a fielder's choice and a throwing error by the pitcher allowed Wright to move up to third. Powell was hit by a pitch to load the bases for the Cardinals with no outs. Christianson drove a ball to deep left field for a sac fly as Wright scored from third. Matthew Rivera followed with a sac fly to center that scored Quartermaine. The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third.
The Rockets managed to get a run in the bottom of the third and cut the Cardinal lead to 3-1.
Zach Cole drew a one-out walk in the top of the fourth. Conant singled to left to put runners on first and second with one out. Wright was clutch with a two-out single to center that scored Cole from second.
Toledo cut the deficit to just one, 4-3, in the home half of the fourth with two runs on three hits and stranded one runner.
After two scoreless innings, Powell singled to second to start the top of the seventh. Christianson singled through the left side. Decker Scheffler came in the game as a pinch hitter and dropped down a sac bunt to move runners to second and third. Ryan Peltier launched a three-run homer to left field to give the Cardinals a 7-3 advantage as the game went to the bottom of the seventh.

Wright, Christianson, and Cole all notched two hits each in game one. Peltier recorded a game-high three RBIs.
Tyler Schweitzer got the start in game one and picked up a no decision. He went 3 2/3 innings with four strikeouts with three earned runs. Sam Klein pitched an outstanding 3 1/3 innings in relief with four strikeouts. Klein collected the win and improved to 1-1 on the year.
Connor Brandon got the loss and fell to 3-3 on the season. He went 4 2/3 innings and struck out six, walked two and surrendered four runs, two earned.
Game Two – Ball State 10, Toledo 2
Cole got the scoring started with a solo home run to right field as he led off the top of the second.

After a three up, three down inning in the bottom of the second, Powell led off the third inning with a nine-pitch walk. Christianson singled through the right side to give the Cardinals runners on first and second. Peltier drew a walk to load the bases. Cole notched his second RBI of the game when he grounded out to the pitcher as Powell scored.
After a scoreless fourth, Christianson started the top of the fifth with a single through the right side. Rivera followed with a single through the left side. Peltier reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, which allowed Christianson to score from second. Cole drove in a run on a ground out to second. Conant drove in Peltier on a single through the left side. Wright knocked in the fourth run of the inning with a double to left center. The Cardinals held a 6-0 lead after five innings.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rockets got on the scoreboard behind two runs on three hits and left two runners on base.
Powell drew a two-out walk in the top of the eighth. Christianson singled to right field and scored Powell. Ball State held a 7-2 lead after eight innings in the books.
Peltier led off the top of the ninth with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Zach Lane singled to third base to put runners on the corners. Wright drew a walk to load the bases. Quartermaine singled to right field and drove in two runs. Powell produced an RBI single through the right side to extend the BSU lead to 10-2.
Christianson had an outstanding game at the plate in game two with a 3-for-4 performance. Cole led the squad with three RBIs.
Ty Johnson threw an absolute gem in the start for game two. Johnson went six innings with six strikeouts and surrendered just three hits. He picked up his fourth win and improved to 4-1 on the year. Tanner Knapp went 2/3 innings in relief and notched one strikeout with two earned runs on two hits. Ryan Brown closed out the game with 2 1/3 innings. Brown struck out four batters and gave up just one hit. The Ball State pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts for the game.
Jordan Power got the loss in game two as he went four innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits and five walks. He fell to 2-2 on the season.
The Cardinals return to Scott Park for the final game against the Rockets on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
