Softball Drops Series Opener at Toledo
April 15, 2022 | Softball
TOLEDO, Ohio - - It was a rough afternoon for the Ball State softball team which suffered an 11-0 (5) loss to Toledo Friday at Scott Park.
Â
The Cardinals (13-23; 6-6 Mid-American Conference) were limited to just four hits, while the Rockets (9-26; 2-11 MAC) snapped a 13-game losing streak with its second-highest run total of the season.
Â
Ball State looked poised to score early, as senior left fielder Faith Hensley drew her league-leading 27th walk of the season and senior shortstop Amaia Daniel smashed a one-out single up the middle. Unfortunately, a pair of strikeouts followed to leave both runners stranded.
Â
Toledo took early control, following with a three-run bottom of the first. The Rockets then scored six in the bottom of the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth to secure the victory.
Â
The Cardinals' second hit in the game was a two-out single from junior second baseman Haley Wynn in the top of the third.Â
Â
Ball State also looked ready to strike in the top of the fifth with back-to-back one-out singles from senior designated player Jazmyne Armendariz and sophomore right fielder Kaitlyn Mathews. However, a fly out and strikeout ended the rally attempt.Â
Â
Ball State will look to avenge the setback Saturday, when the teams play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. back at Scott Park.
