Ball State boasts event wins in high jump and 200-meter dash
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Charity Griffith and MaQuila Norman earned wins in the high jump and the 200-meter dash, respectively, to highlight a successful weekend for the Ball State track and field team at the Meyo Invitational.
"It was a good meet," head coach Adrian Wheatley said. "I think we showed that we're continuing to trend in the right direction. Overall, it was a good performance. We always want more, but the kids are working for each other and continually battling."
Griffith opened at 5-8 in the high jump and built up to clearing 6-feet (1.83m) for the second time in her career. She cleared 3.5 inches higher than the next-highest competitor.
Norman ran a season-best 24.34 in the 200-meter dash and took first. She and Aaleiah Winford (25.38) won their respective heats.
Winford was one of four Cardinals to advance from the prelims to the semifinals in the 60-meter dash, joining Moriah Johnson, Michelle Lehmann and Jenna Oriani. Oriani won her heat at 7.78, while Johnson (7.77) and Lehmann (7.84) each finished second in their heat.
Winford improved her time of 7.81 to 7.76 in the semifinals, while Lehmann improved by .01 from 7.84 to 7.83.
