Men’s Tennis Closes Out Seven-Match Road Stretch at Illinois State

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Ball State men's tennis team (5-4) suffered a 6-1 setback at Illinois State (4-9) Wednesday afternoon at the Evergreen Racquet Club. The Cardinals have been on the road for their last seven matches.
The Redbirds took the early 1-0 edge over the Cardinals after taking the doubles point. Although BSU fell in doubles, Thibault de Negri and Eli Herran managed to take down the Redbirds duo of Melker Isaksson and Diego Le Gal Perez by a score of 6-1.
In singles, the lone Cardinal to win their match was Danilo Kovacevic, who took a straight-set match from Illinois State's Pol Botifoll Rius on court No. 2. Kovacevic took the first set 6-4 and the second frame 6-3.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues spring action on Saturday when it hosts Big Ten foe Michigan State at 1 pm ET at the Northwest YMCA. The Cardinals will welcome back the Spartan's head coach Gene Orlando who is also a Ball State tennis alumnus and is a member of the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame. Gene played on four Mid-American Conference championship teams for Ball State head coach Bill Richards from 1984-87 and has been the head coach for Michigan State men's tennis team since 1992.
